Oklahoma Oil Company Fire Prompts Evacuations

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A five-alarm fire at an oil company in Oklahoma City Saturday sent a huge plume of toxic smoke into the air and prompted the evacuation of more than 50 residents.
Officials said the fire at the B&M Oil Co. in southeast Oklahoma City was contained by late morning.Fire crews were allowing it to burn out.The company distributes hydrocarbon products, including kerosene, methanol and ethanol.As firefighters worked to contain the fire, a number of explosions occurred, shooting 55-gallon drums containing the chemicals 40 to 50 feet in the air.Because of the explosions, firefighters relocated nearby residents and news crews for their safety.No injuries or deaths were reported.Authorities said at least 60 firefighters were called to the scene to fight the fire.
