YORK, Pa. -- The city of York is moving ahead with plans to bring minor league baseball to York.Small's Field is one of two primary sites being considered by the city for a $24 million minor league baseball stadium and sports complex. The major hurdle is convincing the York City School Board to allow use of the district-owned land, a plan it rejected over the summer.
The other primary site being considered is known as the Arch Street site. Both sites were designated by a special task force as prime sites for a baseball stadium in York.Wednesday, Mayor John Brenner named another task force to examine the financing and engineering issues presented by the two sites."I want the damned thing built, and I want it built in the city. I want it to be able to help economic development and bring in new ones," Brenner said. The York mayor is closely watching the building of a minor league baseball stadium in Lancaster. Brenner believes both cities can successfully operate minor league teams.
