Interstate 83 Reopens After Tanker Crash

An overturned tanker truck caused traffic problems on Interstate 83 for most of Wednesday.
A propane tanker overturned at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Fairview Township, York County.Crews were finally able to turn the tanker truck upright before 5 p.m. and the southbound lanes have reopened. The northbound lanes reopened before 7 p.m. after crews emptied the propane tanker.
State police said the tanker slowed down trying to avoid slow traffic, but the tanker sideswiped an SUV and overturned. State police said the tanker had bad brakes."It's kind of frightening that a propane tanker had bad brakes out here on Interstate 83," Trooper Kristal Turner-Childs said.No one was injured in the crash.As a precaution, Doc Holiday's and the Travel Inn were evacuated. Hazmat crews were on the scene to ensure there are no environmental issues. News 8 was told that there were no environmental issues.
